What Should You Invest In?

It’s hard to know where in your wardrobe to spend your money. What’s worth it and what isn’t? So I want to give you the same bits of advice I give any of my clients who are looking to invest in their wardrobe!

The way I do this is by asking my clients three questions about their wants and needs.

Question One: Do you have something that you need every day or for the majority of the year?

  • I think investing in good underwear is a great place to start and a good bra is the best foundation an outfit can have.

  • For some people, they get cold - so the answer could be a jacket, for others it is everyday trousers for chasing after the kids in - you have to consider what you need at its best quality, to last and give you the best performance. Think about what is your greatest wardrobe need.

  • Investing in good quality basics is key as that one £100 you spend on jeans, with proper care will last you a lot longer and save you more money than buying a new pair of £30 jeans every six months.

Question Two: What do you want to see when you open your wardrobe?

  • Fashion isn’t just about practicality. Yes, it is important, but, you can work in an office with a smart dress code and still look and feel great.

  • Maybe you want to see more of your favourite colour or you love 100% cotton. Whatever it is, the things you really want (and will use) should ideally be of a higher quality.

Question Three: What is your budget right now?

  • It is often thought that a new wardrobe or the change to a higher quality has to be done in one huge chunk, this couldn’t be further from the truth. Many people cannot afford to do that, so the best option is to have a priority list. Maybe you want a good jacket, jeans and everyday shoes. You should consider which of these you need most, and invest in that piece first.

Investing in your wardrobe takes time, effort and money, I wouldn’t recommend doing it all in one go as it can be extremely overwhelming, even to the pro-shoppers. Things come and go in stores, new colours, styles and trends. Take the time to think about what you want, what you need and what works best for you.
